The main research goal is improving the agronomic, economic, and environmental sustainability of cereal-forage cropping systems in the Po Valley. Fodder production and landscape preservation of Alpine environments are also addressed. Research topics include:

  • comparison of cropping systems with different intensiveness and presence of legume-based meadows in terms of production, resilience, evolution of chemical and biological fertility, and N and P leaching in long-term experiments
  • agronomic and environmental optimization of mineral fertilization, manure application, and weed control
  • improvement of techniques for organic production of fodder crops in lowland and Alpine regions
  • agronomic testing of forage, turfgrass, and feed grain legume candidate varieties for the National Register of varieties
  • assessing the impact of management and grazing techniques on the production and biodiversity of Alpine natural and semi-natural grasslands
